Husain’s fascination with the horse went beyond
mere physicality; he sought to convey the aesthetic beauty
and essence of the animal. Whether it was the camaraderie
of ‘Duldul’ from the battlefield of Karbala, the beguiled

contours of the horses of Tse Pai Hung, or the regal grandeur
of the ones in the Ashwamedh, Husain’s exploration knew no
bounds. His celebration of the unseen syntax of a painter’s
world was palpable in the joy he derived from his works. He
delved into the medium’s inherent dimensions to capture

the maelstrom of visuals erupting from the subconscious,

Apart from the horse and the elephant, Husain’s
canvases also showcased other animals like bulls and tigers.

The tiger, in particular, held a special place in his art. Husain
celebrated the tiger in various sketches and paintings, often
depicting the interplay between tigers and elephants or in
conflict with humans. These portrayals were a testament to
